It is the spirit that can be found in nature and how it reflects qualities and weaknesses of our own spirits that inspires me.

 

Resilience in nature fascinates me most, how the urban crows and the windswept trees have managed to adapt and survive in harsh environments. My ode to crows is an ode to the resilient spirit within us.

The first Magpie sculptures that I made were '7 For a Secret'. I found the act of binding my deepest secrets into the breasts of these birds, creating an impregnable cage, and with these magpies being publicly displayed and the keepers of my darkest secrets, made me feel very vulnerable but also liberated.
